The Road Ahead

We often wonder, what is on the road ahead, what is around the next bend and what does the future hold? For American Labor, I think the future is indeed bright. As Americans, we stand up and solve problems, we don’t let the past dictate the future and we do not quit. We beat the competition with better quality and service. I was reminded of this on a recent trip to an “old school” hardware store that was hands down beating the big box stores because they knew the product and helped me as a customer. That’s American Labor, doing the best quality work, delivering the best value.

After spending many hours pondering just the right theme for our catalog, it was not until New Years Eve, 2007, while watching New York City bring in the new year that I knew exactly the thoughts I wanted to share with you, our great customers.

It has now been six years since we have walked the horrible road of having our son killed by a drunk driver, the very year he was to come into Image Pointe and help us continue to grow our company. The morning of August 26, 2001, I would have never imagined that our family would be walking such a road of sorrow and grief. We saw the new years road as bright, as a future of the second generation coming into the family business, but the road ahead brought other plans. Now, six years later, we are still a strong company and have been provided with employees and customers who have walked right along side us to help our future look bright again. With our faith, and many of you, we have continued on.

Now we have been able to walk a road of having our son in law and daughter start graduate studies at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. A program to which over 3000 students apply and only 320 get in, Josh and Beth were both accepted. Again, a road of slim possibilities, yet it came to be.

While watching the Times Square New Years ball drop and seeing all the thousands of people that were there to see it, I wondered what drew these thousands of people to come to New York and watch such a great event. Just at that moment the television commentator asked many of them the very question I was thinking about, “what made you stand in here for 14 plus hours to see such an event, what made you come from all over the world to be in New York City on New Years Eve?” Here are some of their comments:

“There is no greater place to be than in America tonight.”

“Because the USA is great!”

“We love you America! You know how to put on a big event!”

People traveled from all over the world to be in America on New Years Eve and were so proud to be here. They traveled a long road and stood for hours to experience America.

None of us knows what The Road Ahead will bring to our country, to our families, to our lives themselves. Being in business for 30 plus years now we have enjoyed getting to know many of you personally and to know some of the roads you have had to walk with your lives and the lives of your unions and your families themselves. Just before Christmas one of my customers said, “I just found out I have cancer and I’m so scared.” You wonder what the road of 2008 will hold for her.

Yet, with the many resources we all have in this country we can know for sure that we have a road of good possibilities ahead of us. We are a strong nation, we have great resources to help even the worst of roads we encounter, but why? The answer is that America is great. There is no other place I would imagine any of us would want to live than in The United States of America.

Is it perfect? Of course not. But think of it, when one of your friends, or union workers get down, aren’t you there to help them? Don’t we help each other? I can testify that during the hardest time in our lives so far, my employees, my friends, and my customers sure stood by us, and still do.

Image Pointe once again wants to let each one of you know, we look forward to yet another year of providing the best quality USA/Union Made products for you. Our goal is to always be a strong Union Company and walk “The Road Ahead” with each of you, no matter what it may hold.
